KINK.com's Very Own...

James Mogul

James Mogul found bondage and S&M in a tiny dark basement in Seattle in 1996. Not long after that, his pursuit of the craft put him into a fully committed and out career that has spanned teaching, performing, photographing and making movies about bondage and kink.

2006 saw a re-location to the Bay area and a position directing movies for the fetish porn company Kink.com, where he continues working a commitment to the advancement of leather and kink sensibilities through media.

One Rope: (Course overview)

"One who is able to arrive and make a strong statement with only a single rope, is one baddassmutherfucker." - ancient Daddy proverb

Take away the bag of toys and what is left? The question forces growth and learning by confronting our reliance on the familiar and posing difficult questions through action not words.

This class teaches the use of a single piece of rope to enact a scene that lies between bondage and S&M. Here we examine how the use of one rope:

- forces consideration of "intent"
- creates a more mindful and concentrated execution, helping to bring us 'into the moment'.
- frees us from rote executions and patterns of habit. It is a way to shock the system into letting go of habitual approach.
- encourages the practitioner to turn focus inwards, seeking an internal and intuitive appreciation for our energies rather than looking for external and ultimately superfluous answers: Introspection

Workshop elements:
- Hands on participation
- How to judge the "whens" and "how longs" of rope that is deployed tight, tighter and tightest
- Building speed
- Effective restraint with one rope
- Quick and Painful tactics that overpower and may be adapted to resistance play

Requirements for Participants
Bring someone to tie up

Bring one 25 foot length of rope. The techniques are aimed at natural fiber ropes. Slippery nylon is discouraged, although a toothy regatta braid or other rope that grabs will work fine.

Wear loose fitting comfortable clothing.

Hands On Dexterity Exercises For Rope Bondage: (Course overview)

Any craft requires proficiency in fundamental techniques to develop as a fulfilling form of expression. Many sports and activities have at their foundation known exercises and drills that teach our bodies the motor skills needed to perform well. Throughout their development, performers often re-visit fundamental drills to focus and promote growth.

The craft of rope bondage however is not uniformly documented, and gaps in fundamental technique and knowledge are not uncommon. Even though performance routines that focus on muscle memory and dexterity speed learning and improve existing skills, these kinds of repeatable, fundamental drills and exercises are not always part of the rope vocabulary.

Dexterity Exercises for Rope Bondage is a presentation of drills meant to teach the muscles what to do so that we do not have to keep telling them. These drills ingrain the movements that our hands and body need to know in order to perform and develop as rope practitioners. Various exercises may be strung together to develop routines for solo practice.

Requirements for Participants
No partner is required for this class, however some drills may be done with a partner.

Two or three ropes apx. 25' in length. The drills are aimed at natural fiber ropes. Slippery nylon is discouraged, although a toothy regatta braid or other rope that grabs will work fine.

One or two climbing style carabineers. These need not be actual climber's, load rated devices.
